What is LASIK?
What is LASIK? - Dallas / Fort Worth Eye Care Provider
LASIK is an acronym and stands for “Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis” which in short refers to the surgical procedure using a microkeratome to cut through the 3 uppermost layers of the cornea, creating and pulling back a flap to expose the middle layer, and using a laser to reshape the underlying cornea to better focus light on the retina and eliminate refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. The top layers of the cornea are then put back in place as a protective flap.
The staff at Brooks Eye Center is knowledgeable about the LASIK surgery procedure, and is also an authority on a non-surgical alternative procedure called Ortho-K that creates favorable results all while you sleep. For more information, contact a member of Brooks Eye Center.
